Leo&Tomi's Birthday Party.

Une de mes plus grande déception l’an dernier fut de ne pas avoir pu fêter mon anniversaire en Australie. Cette année, je me suis promise de ne pas commettre la même erreur. Le plan: un Farm Party pour Leo & Tomi.

Pour résumé la soirée:

Un excellent roast préparé par Dean Casey avec légumes et viandes fraîches du Queen Victoria Market à Melbourne.

Un énorme bonfire mis en place par Mark et Ian Foletta, sans oublier l’aide de Jock Gunn, Matthew Lamb, Tomi Reynolds ainsi que deux scies électriques et un tracteur pour transporter les arbres. (!!!)

Un délicieux gâteau au chocolat cuisiné par Rosie Foletta.

5 kilos de guimauves et un onion chopper, grâcieuseté de Joel Chadwick et Hal Crossland.

Sans oublier une version spéciale du jeu de “Donkey Donkey” où l’on pouvait aller jusqu’à boire un ours et où Mark connut une expérience homosexuelle incestueuse dont je vous épargne les détails.

L’attraction de la soirée resta tout de même Jock Gunn mettant le feu à sa chevelure... plus qu’une fois. 

Ce fut l’une des meilleures fêtes que j’ai eu. Merci à tout le monde, vraiment. L’idée de rester plus longtemps en Australie fut une extrême réussite.

 One of my biggest deception of last year was not to be able to party in Australia for my birthdays. That is why I promised myself not to make the same mistake again. The plan: a Farm Party for Leo & Tomi.

To resume the night:

An excellent roast prepared by Dean Casey with veggies and meat freshly picked from the Queen Victoria Market in Melbourne.

An enormous bonfire pilled up by Mark and Ian Foletta and their helpers Jock Gunn, Matthew Lamb, Tomi Reynolds without forgetting two chainsaws and a tractor to carry the trees. (!!!)

A delicious chocolate cake baked by Rosie Foletta.

5 kilos of marshmallows and an onion chopper, thanks to Joel Chadwick and Hal Crossland.

A special version of the “Donkey Donkey” game in which you could go up to drink a whole bear and where Mark experienced a homosexual experience of which I will spare you the details. 

The main attraction still was Jock Gunn putting his hair on fire... more than once.

It was one of the best parties I’ve ever had. Thanks to everyone, really. The idea of staying longer in Australia was extremely successful.

“Pourquoi viens-tu faire du ski en Australie si tu sais que la neige, le température et la montagne sont de la merde?”

Bonne question. Réponse: la vie sociale.

Et peut-être un peu le salaire. 

Mais bon, la vie sociale à Buller est quelque chose. Des employés de partout à travers le monde placé dans le même environnement pour trois mois... Ouin. 

Même si parfois on a tous envie de pleurer et prendre le premier bus pour Melbourne, Buller trouve toujours une façon de te faire rester, et même vouloir revenir l’année d’après. 

Merci à tout le monde pour cette fantastique saison! 

Buller 2011, moments fous, neige merdique, pluie assez froide, définitevement trop de vent, mais que de bons souvenirs!

“Why do you come to Australia to ski when you know that the snow, the weather and mountain are shit?”

Good Question. Answer: the social life.

And maybe a bit the money.

The social life is something at Buller. Employees from all over the world placed in a closed environment for three months... Yep.

Even if sometimes we all feel like crying and jumping in the first bus heading to Melbourne, Buller always finds a way to make us stay and even make us come back the following year.

Thanks to everyone for this amazing season!

Buller 2011, crazy moments, shit snow, freezing rain, definitely too much wind, but so many good memories!

Dans la vie, il a une première fois pour tout. Même si après un certain âge on commence à faire le tour, on arrive toujours à trouver des nouveautés pour pimenter sa vie un peu.

Anne Isabelle Leonard, bravo : ton premier os brisé est ton pouce gauche.

Des skis, une chute, le pouce pris dans la pôle, le pouce complètement fracturé et disloqué. Miam. Conclusion: dans un plâtre pour 6 semaines. Au moins, ils m’ont installé un plâtre en fibre de verre rouge vif. Yesss.

Il faut savoir aussi que la journée d’avant, une de mes amies à l’école de ski s’est fait rentrée dedans par un touriste et s’est fracturée des côtes et que le jour d’après un de mes amis s’est disloqué et fracturé le coude gauche... Belle gang de vainceurs!

Cinq jours après mon accident, j’ai essayé de retourner sur les pistes pour travailler. 

Erreur.

1. Pas capable d’habiller les enfants.
2. Pas capable d’apporter les assiettes au dîner (J’ai essayé et résultat, 8 assiettes sur le sol...)
3. Je me fais rentrer dedans par un touriste et tombe directement sur mon pouce.

Et oui... 

Ma saison est donc finie. Retour à la ferme! Honnêtement, je suis plus qu’heureuse! Disons qu’il ne reste qu”une bande de 8 pieds sur la piste principale et il a autant de skieurs... Aah Buller!

In life, there is a first for everything. Even if after a certain age you start going around everything, you always find a way to discover new stuff to put a little excitement in your life.

Anne Isabelle Leonard, bravo: your first broken bone is your left thumb.

Skis, a fall, thumb stuck in the stock, thumb completely fractured and dislocated. Miam.

Conclusion: in a cast for 6 weeks. At least, they gave me a bright red fibber glass cast. Yesss.

You have to know also that the day before, one of my friends from ski school got ran into by a tourist and broke a rib and that the day after my accident, my other friend dislocated and broke his let elbow... Nice little crippled family!

Five days after my accident, I tried going on the slopes and back to work.

Fail:

1. Not able to dress the kids.
2. Not able to bring the plates at lunch time (I tried and as a result: 8 plates on the floor...)
3. Got ran into by a tourist on the slope and fell directly on my thumb.

Yep...

My season is now over. Back to the farm! Honestly, I’m pretty happy. Let’s say that there’s only a 8 feet stripe of snow left on the main slope and the same amount of skiers... Aah Buller!

Caroline & James Matthews.

1 5   j u i l l e t   2 0 1 1 .

Des nuages recouvrent la ville de Sydney et la pluie tombe sur la petite chapelle de pierre.

Les invités courent se réfugier à l’intérieur de celle-ci pour ne pas mouiller leurs habits. Je m’asseois sur l’un des bancs et observe la salle en silence: fleurs, chandelles, rubans en boucle... Devant, James est debout, un sourire aux lèvres, attendant impatiemment l’ouverture des portes. L’orgue se fait entendre et les femmes d’honneur défilent dans l’allée. Puis, Caroline entre, le sourire le plus immense de l’histoire des sourires. 

Tous oublièrent la pluie et les nuages. Caroline et James rayonnaient de joie et croyez-moi, c’était contagieux.

La réception fut splendide. Vous avez déjà entendu parler d’un marriage avec un bar à bonbons et un photobooth? Fou.

Simple, beau, inusité et rempli d’amour, ce marriage fut une extrême réussite. 

Je souhaite longue vie, amour et santé à Caroline et James Matthews.

J u l y   1 5  ,   2 0 1 1 .

Clouds are covering Sydney and rain is falling on the little chapel. The guests run inside trying not to wet they’re suits. I sit down on one of the church’s benches and observe the room: flowers, candles, bows... In front of the church, James is standing a smile on his lips, waiting for the doors to open. The organ starts playing and the bridesmaids walking across the aisle. Finally, Caroline enters with the biggest smile of the history of smiles.

Everyone forgot about the clouds and the rain. Caroline and James sparkled with joy and believe me, it was contagious.

The reception was splendid. Have you ever heard about a wedding with a photo booth and a candy bar? Crazy.

Simple, beautiful, full of surprises and filled with love, this wedding was a great success.

Long life, lotta love and cheers to Caroline and James Matthews.
